VACCINE UPDATE

Board members and Property Managers are encouraged to share the information provided to their communities. It is important during this crucial time that we all come together in an attempt to protect the community. We understand that the elderly within the community may have some difficulty accessing the online booking system and should be encouraged to reach out for help, it is also important to remind individuals that appointments can be made over the phone by calling 1-833-943-3900.

TORONTO COVID-19 VACCINE UPDATE

As of Monday, May 3rd 2021, the City of Toronto expanded its COVID-19 vaccine eligibility, opening its Provincial booking portal to hot-spot residents aged 18 and older. For more information on whether your area is a hot spot, please click here.

Adults living in the specific postal codes designated as hot spots were able to start reserving appointments as of Monday morning. Those who are eligible can book an appointment at immunization clinics in Toronto using the Province’s vaccination booking system or by calling the Provincial booking system at 1-833-943-3900. Adults aged 18 and older living hot spot postal codes, should be aware of the pop-up clinics around the City, no appointments are necessary. Please see our recent bulletin for a list of pop-up clinics this week.

The government of Ontario have confirmed that this week and next, the province will be sending half of its vaccine supply to the hot spots, based on recommendations from the government’s science advisers. To date, 1,290,708 vaccines have been administered in Toronto.

PEEL REGION LAUNCHES COVID-19 VACCINE STAND-BY LIST

Peel Region has launched a vaccine stand-by list that will allow residents to take advantage of leftover doses at COVID-19 clinics. Officials have confirmed that they will allow up to 300 people a week to put their names on the list. The list will then be cleared every Sunday at 11:59 p.m., at which point, residents can try to sign up again.

Only those currently eligible for their first dose of the vaccine should put their name on the stand-by list and residents should be prepared to arrive at a clinic within 15 to 30 minutes of being called. We understand from officials that the list of eligibility will expand further on Thursday, May 6, 2021. Currently, only the following individuals may book an appointment for a vaccine.

CONFUSION ARISES IN YORK REGION AS TO WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE COVID-19 VACCINE

As the province opens its vaccine portal to those 18 and older in hot spot neighbourhoods, York Region Public Health advised that it is not booking appointments for individuals between the ages of 18 and 34 in hot spots due to the lack of supply. Officials later provided clarity and confirmed that you can book an appointment if you are 18 and older living in a hot spot, however, you must book through the provincial booking system and not the region’s own portal. A York Region spokesperson provided that Cornell Community Center in Markham is currently the only immunization site in York Region using the Provincial system, all others are using the region’s own portal.
